Careers of the Future
Events in 2020 - 2021 have increased remote jobs, e-commerce, and resulted in an estimated 25% of workers switching occupations. If you are in the market for a new position, there are plenty of occupations looking for someone with the right skills. This article discusses some of the fastest growing occupations. This information was obtained from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistic list of the fastest Growing Occupations for employment between 2020 and 2030.
Not surprising that a Wind Turbine Technician is at the top of the list with a 2020 median pay of $56,230 annually. Becoming a wind turbine service technician requires the desire to work outdoors, in confined spaces and often at great heights. Most wind turbine service technicians learn their trade by attending a technical school and on the job training. The employment opportunities for wind turbine technicians is projected to grow 68 percent from 2020 to 2030. This is much faster than the average for all occupations!
Positions for Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installers are projected to grow 52 percent from 2020 to 2030. Solar PV installers assemble, set up and maintain rooftop or other systems that convert sunlight into energy. Solar PV installers need to be able to verifying measurements and the design of the structure on which the PV system will be set up. The work environment is mostly outdoors, but sometimes in attics or crawl spaces where connection to the electrical grid would be completed. The 2020 Median Pay is $46,470 per year. A Solar PV installer would need a high school diploma or the equivalent along with on the job training.
Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Anesthetist, Nurse Midwives positions in healthcare continue to be at the top of the list for employment growth. The need for nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetist, and nurse midwives are projected to grow 45 percent from 2020-2030. The median annual wage for nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetist, and nurse midwives was $117,670 in May 2020. They work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, physicians’ offices and clinics. A nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetist, and nurse midwives must earn at least a master’s degree in one of the advanced practice registered nurse fields. They must also be licensed in their state and pass a national certification exam.
Looking to spice up your life, Cook positions are projected to grow by 26 percent from 2020 to 2030. Cooks are need in restaurants, schools, hospitals, private households, and any place were food is prepared and served. The median salary in 2020 is $27,250 per year or $13.10 per hour. Cooking skills can be learned on the job. No formal educations is required, however some restaurant cooks attend culinary school to improve their skills.
Some additional fast growing occupations include motion picture projectionists, wood model makers, makeup artists, occupational and physical therapy assistants, animal caretakers, and information security analyst.
